About

Meet Jenny

I help international grad students write clear, confident, graduate-level English — and finish their thesis without burning out.

When I first started working with graduate students as an academic editor, something became painfully clear.

It wasn’t just the grammar or sentence structure they were struggling with. It was doubt.
The kind that creeps in when English isn’t your first language and you’re constantly wondering:

“Is this even academic enough?”
“Will my supervisor think I sound stupid?”
“Why can’t I say what I really mean in English?”

I saw brilliant students—deep thinkers, thoughtful researchers—getting stuck not because they didn’t know their topic, but because writing in academic English felt like climbing a mountain in the dark.

Some were procrastinating, paralyzed by perfectionism and fear.
Others were producing endless drafts, but still being told their writing wasn’t “clear enough” or “critical enough.”

I knew it didn’t have to be this way.

As a PhD graduate and trained academic editor, I saw a pattern:
When students understood what supervisors were really looking for—and got feedback tailored to how they think and learn—they made real progress.

Their confidence grew.
Their writing improved.
They stopped spinning their wheels and started submitting chapters.

That’s why I created Jenny Hill PhD Academic Coaching—a service designed especially for ESL and international grad students who are ready to write better, faster, and with a lot less stress.

Who I Work With

I work with graduate students from all backgrounds and disciplines
especially those for whom English is a second (or third!) language.

You Might Be:

  • A first-year Master’s or PhD student trying to decode what “critical engagement” actually means
  • A mid-stage researcher drowning in feedback and losing motivation
  • A final-year student who just wants to finish already—without another soul-crushing round of edits
  • An ambitious grad aiming for publication and wanting their writing to reflect their true ability
  • Or someone who’s secretly thinking, “Maybe I’m not cut out for this.”

My Philosophy

I believe that great academic writing doesn’t start with perfect grammar.

It starts with clarity. Confidence. And a mindset that says: You belong here.

Because when you know what to do—and why it works—you write with more focus, finish faster, and actually feel proud of what you’ve written.

Empowerment

We empower students by providing tailored guidance and strategies, equipping them with the skills needed for successful academic navigation and independent writing.
